What's going on in American Puppetry this week?

This week sees the biggest national puppetry festival in the United States. Puppet Festival (r)Evolution, the 2013 Puppeteers of America National Puppetry Festival is taking place from 5 to 10 August at the campus of Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Robert Smythe, founder of the Mum Puppet Theater is the director of this year’s festival. "I think what we’re seeing right now is that because of the Internet, information that used to be very hard to come by, like how to make a puppet, how to get started, it’s now very easy to get information on how to do things with puppets. So now we have a lot more artists, storytellers, performers — you know, people who are sitting and telling stories, finding out that they can use puppetry to do what it is they want to do.”  Check out their puppeteer interviews on Tumblr blog here!  Puppet Vision is attending the festival and has promised to blog on the daily events here.
