A week-long master class with Paul Zaloom and Lynn Jeffries will take place at the Ashland Center for Theatre Studies in Southern Oregon University from 26 to 31 July 2009.
Write, design, build, rehearse and perform an original shadow play under the guidance of satirical performance artist/puppeteer Paul Zaloom and master puppet builder/ puppeteer Lynn Jeffries. In this class, you will learn to make beautiful puppets with ingenious movements, and to improvise and invent text and action in a free-wheeling, joyful process of creation. During your week in the charming small town of Ashland, Oregon, you will also attend plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, including the world premieres of Octavio Solis' adaptation of Don Quixote (with puppets by Lynn Jeffries), and Bill Cain's Equivocation, a high-stakes political thriller about the writing of Macbeth.
Cost is $870 plus a $139 materials/ticket fee. The application form is available here and must be accompanied by a $50 deposit (with additional $30 late fee if postmarked after 1 March). You can watch some of Zaloom's humorous films here!
